Rolling bearings have three major disadvantages over plain bearings
1. rolling bearings bear the load capacity than the same volume of sliding bearings is much smaller, so the radial size of rolling bearings. Therefore, in the situation of large load and small radial size and compact structure requirements, such as internal combustion engine crankshaft bearings, sliding bearings are more widely used;
2. rolling bearing vibration and noise greatly, especially in the use of late, therefore, very high precision, and no vibration occasions, rolling bearing is difficult to do it, generally better selection of sliding bearing.
3., the rolling bearings are particularly sensitive to foreign objects such as metal chips, and if the bearings enter foreign bodies, they will cause great vibration and noise, and also cause early damage. In addition, the possibility of early damage to rolling bearings due to metal clamps, impurities and so on. Even without the early damage, the life of the rolling bearing has a certain limit. In a word, the life of rolling bearing is shorter than that of sliding bearing.
However, compared with plain bearings, rolling bearings have advantages and disadvantages, and each has certain applicable occasions, therefore, the two can not completely replace each other, and each of them develops in a certain direction, expanding their fields. However, because of the outstanding advantages of rolling bearings, there is a trend among those who come later. At present, rolling bearing has become the main supporting type of machinery, and its application is more and more extensive. |
